Q:  What is this chair made of?

A:  We use a premium, select- grade cypress. (More information can be found at www.cypressinfo.org)  It can be left unfinished, to weather and grey, for low maintenance.  A light stain will bring out the beautiful grain.  And, of course, we can still paint or stain almost any Benjamin Moore colour.

Q:  What are the overall dimensions?

A:  27" wide x 41" high x 33" deep.  The seat itself is about 17.5" wide x 18" deep.

Q:  What are the differences to the original Rietveld design?

A:  The most important is the angle of the back.  We have made it more upright creating those comfortable angles for back, butt and knees.  Another change was the method the legs and struts are attached to each other.  We have notched out the pieces to fit into each other and critical joins are also doweled.  

Q:  Do you use screws?

A:  Yes.  As with our other furniture there are no screw heads showing on top of the wood.  This means that no water sits in a screw hole, rotting the wood which ultimately leads to a wobbly chair.  

Q:  Can The Garden Chair be shipped?

A:  Yes.  It is shipped knocked-down, 2 to a box with instructions and necessary hardware for a simple assembly.  The box can be shipped via courier.

Q:  What is the beautiful finish? 

A:  We've switched from an oil-based paint to a new Benjamin Moore product called Aura®.  This is an amazing exterior paint; eco-friendly (very low VOC level), very hard, long-lasting and easier to repair.  You can still choose from any of the gorgeous Benjamin Moore colours.  If you want that pop of colour, this is the product to use. 

Q:  What if I want a more natural look? 

A:  Then we would suggest one of the stains from the Benjamin Moore "Exterior Stain, Deck & Siding Colour Collection" brochure.  The finish is not as shiny as the paint, but the soft fading over the years is a very appealing look.
